Reynolds's porträt sofort bestätigt frau Siddons's status als der größte tragische schauspieler ihrer zeit . Hinter ihr stehen figuren, die terror darstellen ( recht ) und mitleid . ihre pose erinnert an die figur des propheten jesaja aus Michelangelo's sixtinische decke , aber frau siddons bestand darauf, dass sie es spontan selbst komponiert hatte . dies ist eine von drei versionen, die reynolds vom porträt gemacht hat .
